Early Life and School
Vickie Gates was born in San Antonio, Texas. She grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma, with her four sisters and one brother. She was the middle child in her family.
In 1980, Vickie finished high school at Eisenhower High School. After that, she went to Oklahoma State University from 1982 to 1984.
Vickie Gates' Bodybuilding Journey
Starting as an Amateur
Vickie was always active in sports. She started lifting weights when she was in college. In 1983, she entered her very first bodybuilding competition in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She won that competition!
She kept working hard and moving up in the amateur ranks. In 1993, she earned her "pro card." This meant she could compete as a professional bodybuilder. She got her pro card by winning the middleweight class at the NPC Nationals.
Becoming a Professional
As a professional, Vickie Gates achieved many great things. She won the Ms. International title three times in a row! She was the champion in 1999, 2000, and 2001.
During those same years, she also placed second at the Ms. Olympia competition three times. Ms. Olympia is one of the biggest bodybuilding contests in the world.
Retiring from the Sport
Vickie Gates decided to retire from bodybuilding in 2003. Her last competition was the 2003 Ms. Olympia, where she finished in 7th place.

Vickie Gates' Personal Life
Vickie is a Christian. She enjoys reading the Bible and going shopping in her free time. She lives in Arlington, Texas, with her daughter, Kindra.
Since September 1999, Vickie has owned her own gym called Strictly Fitness. It is located in Irving, Texas. She also works there as a personal trainer, helping others get fit. She used to work for Bally Total Fitness too.
Vickie was married before, and during that time, her last name was Gates-Lewis. In 1992, she met Ronnie Coleman at a GNC store. Ronnie Coleman is also a very famous professional bodybuilder. He won the Mr. Olympia title eight times! Vickie and Ronnie dated for almost seven years. She is currently single.
