One London was a small British political party. A political party is a group of people who share similar ideas about how a country or city should be run. They work together to get their members elected to government.

One London was started on 15 September 2005 by Damian Hockney and Peter Hulme-Cross. They had previously been elected to the London Assembly in June 2004. The London Assembly helps to run the city of London. Hockney and Hulme-Cross first represented the United Kingdom Independence Party. Later, they formed another group called Veritas. After Veritas faced difficulties, Hockney and Hulme-Cross created One London, with Damian Hockney as its leader.

One London officially became a registered political party in November 2005. This means it was recognized by the government and could take part in elections. The party stopped being registered in November 2008.

Running for London's Mayor and Assembly

In February 2008, One London announced that Damian Hockney would try to become the Mayor of London. The Mayor is the leader of the city. Hockney promised to change policies that were not popular with drivers. He also wanted to cut the part of the council tax that goes to the GLA by half. Council tax is a local tax paid by people living in an area.

However, on 27 March 2008, Hockney decided to stop his campaign for mayor. He said that smaller parties did not get enough attention from the media. Even though he pulled out of the mayoral race, the party still planned to compete in the Assembly election.

In the Assembly election, One London received only a very small number of votes. They got 0.14% of the votes across London. This meant they came in last place and lost both of their seats in the London Assembly.

What One London Believed In

One London had several main ideas and goals. A big goal was for the UK to leave the European Union. This idea is called Euroscepticism. It means believing that the UK should not be part of the European Union.

The party also focused on problems within London's government. They felt there was a "democratic deficit." This means they thought people in London did not have enough say in how their city was governed. They also pointed out differences in how much tax Londoners paid compared to other parts of the UK.

One London also wanted to get rid of the London congestion charge. This is a fee drivers pay to enter certain busy areas of London. The party also claimed they were the first to predict that the cost of the 2012 London Olympics would be more than £10 billion.
