Grocery Store at One Park Place

A special grocery store called Phoenicia Specialty Foods opened on the ground floor of One Park Place. This store is 28,000 square feet (2,600 square meters) big. It helps people living in downtown Houston get everyday items. You can find things like bread, eggs, and milk there.

The store also sells unique products from Phoenicia Specialty Foods. It has a Wine Bar, a cafe, and a deli. These spots are great for people who work nearby. Before it opened, many people said Phoenicia would be the first big grocery store in downtown Houston.

Zohrab "Bob" Tcholakian, the owner, designed a special system. This system lets the store bake its own fresh bread right there. He used his background as an architect to create it. The store also has plenty of parking. This makes it easy for people from other parts of Houston, like Houston Heights and Montrose, to visit. Inside the grocery store, you can also find the MKT Bar.

Before Phoenicia announced its plans, there were rumors. People thought that Whole Foods Markets might open a store in One Park Place. The Phoenicia store was first planned to open in December 2010. Then it was moved to May 2011. Because of some issues with the building's electrical and water lines, it opened on July 15. By November, the store was fully open.

Schools for Residents

The children living in One Park Place go to schools in the Houston Independent School District. As of 2015, students are assigned to certain schools.

  • For kindergarten through 8th grade, students go to Gregory Lincoln Education Center.
  • For high school, students attend Northside High School. This school used to be called Jefferson Davis High.

There have been some changes to school zones over time. In Spring 2011, Atherton Elementary School and E.O. Smith Education Center joined together. They formed a new school for grades K-5 at the Atherton site. Because of this, middle school students from One Park Place were moved from Smith to Gregory Lincoln. Later, for the 2014-2015 school year, the elementary school zone also changed. Students were moved from Bruce to Gregory-Lincoln K-8.
