Pierport: A Historic Spot

Pierport is a small, unincorporated community in the northwest part of the township. It's located at 44°25′36″N 86°14′24″W / 44.42667°N 86.24000°W / 44.42667; -86.24000. Long ago, in 1866, a company built a pier here. This pier was used to ship wood from the area. At first, it was called "Turnersport."

Later, in 1868, a man named Charles W. Perry came to Pierport. He bought the land in 1871 and helped the community grow. The name was changed to "Pierport" in 1872. Some people even called it "Perry's Pier." There was a post office here, but it only opened during the summer from 1929 until it closed in 1933.
