Ono (/ˈn/ OH-noh) is a small, unincorporated community located in Pierce County, Wisconsin, United States. It sits where U.S. Route 10 meets County Highway CC. This spot is about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west-northwest of Plum City. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

Ono is sometimes called Grange Hall. This is because it used to be home to a meeting hall for a local group called The National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry. This group helps farmers and their families. The oldest building still standing in Ono is the Ono United Methodist Church, which was built way back in 1862.

What is Frac Sand?

Ono's biggest employer is a company called Muskie-Proppant. This company runs a large plant that processes something called "frac sand." Frac sand is a special type of sand that is very strong and round. It's used in a process called hydraulic fracturing (or "fracking").

In fracking, this sand is mixed with water and chemicals. This mixture is then pumped deep underground at high pressure. The pressure creates tiny cracks in rock formations. The frac sand then holds these cracks open. This allows natural gas or oil to flow out more easily. The Muskie-Proppant plant in Ono prepares this special sand for use in the energy industry.
