Early Life and Military Service

Oran Jones was born in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Harlem, New York City.

After high school, he attended the United States Naval Academy. He graduated from there in 1981. Before becoming a singer, Jones served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Oran "Juice" Jones was the very first musician to sign with OBR Records. This record label was part of Def Jam, a famous music company.

His song "The Rain" became a huge hit in 1986. It reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song is so well-known that it's often listed among the top "one-hit wonders" of the 1980s. A "one-hit wonder" is an artist who is famous for just one song.
