Early Life and Military Service

Jones was born in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Harlem, New York City. He attended the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 1981. Before becoming a musician, Jones served as a sniper officer in the Marine Corps.

Oran "Juice" Jones was the very first musician to sign with OBR Records. This record label was a part of Def Jam, a famous music company.

His Big Hit: "The Rain"

In 1986, Jones released his most famous song, "The Rain." This song quickly became a huge hit! It reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which lists the most popular songs in the United States. "The Rain" was so popular that it helped Jones get a nomination for a Grammy Award. He was nominated for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male.

The song is often remembered as one of the top "One Hit Wonders" from the 1980s by VH1. After "The Rain," he released another song called "How to Love Again." This was a duet, meaning he sang it with another artist from his label, Alyson Williams.
