Alyson Williams' Music Journey

Alyson Williams is the daughter of Bobby Booker, a bandleader and trumpeter. She started her music career by singing backup for many different artists. These artists included Curtis Hairston, Melba Moore, and Bobby Brown.

Early Groups and Solo Start

Before becoming a solo artist, Alyson was part of a group called High Fashion. Later, she sang with another group called the Affair.

Her first solo song, "Yes We Can Can," came out in 1986. She then signed with the Def Jam record label in 1987. At Def Jam, she became a popular singer for duets. She sang with other artists from her label, like Chuck Stanley and Oran "Juice" Jones.

Releasing Her First Album

In 1989, Alyson Williams released her first album, called Raw. She was the first R&B female singer to sign with Def Jam. This album had hit songs like "My Love Is So Raw," which featured the rapper Nikki D, and "Sleep Talk."

Her song "Just Call My Name" was a big hit on the Billboard R&B charts, reaching number 4. Many radio stations still play this song today. The album also included a duet with Ted Mills from the group Blue Magic. Another one of her songs, "I Need Your Lovin'," was a top 10 hit in the UK.

Acting and Other Projects

Alyson has also acted in musical plays. In 1986, she played her friend Phyllis Hyman in a play called "Thank God, The Beat Goes On." She also played the role of Alberta, the mother of Marvin Gaye, in a play called "My Brother, Marvin."

She recorded a song called "Do You Wanna Know" with Tashan for his album On the Horizon. She later toured with him in the United Kingdom.

In 1991, Alyson recorded "She's Not Your Fool" for the movie Livin' Large. This song also appeared on her self-titled album that same year.
