Exploring Orchard Lake's Features

Apple Island: A Special Place

Orchard Lake has a cool 35-acre island right in its middle. It's called Apple Island. Long ago, Native Americans often lived on this island. Later, settlers came and planted apple trees there. That's how the lake got its name!

Today, Apple Island is no longer lived on. It has become a protected wildlife sanctuary. This means it's a safe place for animals and plants. Once a year, a group of runners from Team CG runs around the island on the frozen lake. There is also another island, Cedar Island, located closer to the western side of the lake.

Schools by the Lake

The northeast shore of Orchard Lake is home to some important schools. The old Michigan Military Academy campus is located there. Now, that campus is used by SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary and St. Mary's Preparatory. These schools have a beautiful view of the lake.
