Oregon Route 335 is a special road in Oregon. It connects the town of Helix to another main road, OR 11, which is close to Pendleton. This road is about 9.79 miles (15.76 km) long and runs north and south. It's completely inside Umatilla County.
This route was officially named OR 335 in 2003. It was part of a plan to give numbers to roads that didn't have them before. Even though it has a number, you might not see signs for it on the road.
What is Oregon Route 335?
Oregon Route 335 is also known as the Havana-Helix Highway No. 335. It's a state highway, which means it's an important road maintained by the state of Oregon. It helps people travel between different towns and areas.
Where Does the Route Go?
OR 335 starts in the town of Helix. It begins where Columbia Street and Main Street meet. From there, it heads south for about 2.40 miles (3.86 km).
Then, it meets OR 334. For a short distance, about 1.13 miles (1.82 km), OR 334 and OR 335 share the same road. After this shared part, OR 334 turns west towards Myrick. OR 335 keeps going south through a place called Midway.
The road finally ends when it meets OR 11. This ending point is about 4.24 miles (6.82 km) south of Midway, near where an old train station used to be.
History of the Highway
OR 335 was first marked as a secondary state highway in 1936. At that time, it ran from the Oregon-Washington Highway (which is now OR 11) to Helix.
There was a rock quarry nearby that provided basalt. Basalt is a type of rock used by the Oregon State Highway Department (now called the Oregon Department of Transportation or ODOT) to build roads.
The number OR 335 was officially given to this highway in 2003.
In the 1950s, there was an idea to extend Vansycle Road, which is the road that continues past Helix. This extension was thought of as a different way to travel instead of using U.S. Route 730 and Oregon Route 11.
