Myrick is a small, historic community in Umatilla County, Oregon, in the United States. It's not a city with its own government, but rather a collection of homes and land. You can find Myrick between the towns of Pendleton and Helix, just south of Oregon Route 334.

About Myrick, Oregon

Myrick is known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger Umatilla County.

How Myrick Got Its Name

Myrick started as a station along the Burlington Northern Railroad line. When it was first built, it was called "Warren." However, there was another place named Warren in Columbia County, which caused a lot of confusion.

To solve this problem, the name was changed to "Myrick." This new name honored Samuel Jackson Myrick. He moved to Oregon from Missouri in 1884 and settled in this very area.

Myrick's Post Office History

For a short time, Myrick even had its own post office. It opened in 1902 and operated until 1908. John Myrick, likely a relative of Samuel Jackson Myrick, was the first person to be in charge of the post office.

Farming in Myrick

The Myrick family became very successful farmers in the area. They were especially known for growing wheat. This helped the community grow and thrive in its early days.
