History of Helix
How Helix Got Its Name
The city of Helix was almost named Oxford. However, when the community's post office was being set up in 1880, authorities did not approve that name. The people living there then decided to call it Helix. This name was chosen because a resident had recently had ear surgery. The word "helix" is also a geometry term and a part of the ear. A writer named Lewis A. McArthur, who wrote Oregon Geographic Names, had some doubts about this story.
