Orlando Bridgeman, 1st Earl of Bradford (born March 19, 1762 – died September 7, 1825) was an important British nobleman and politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is a part of the British Parliament, from 1784 to 1800. He later received the special title of Earl of Bradford.
Orlando's Early Life
Orlando Bridgeman was the son of Henry Bridgeman, 1st Baron Bradford, who was also a nobleman. His mother was Elizabeth Simpson.
Orlando went to school at Harrow School in London. After that, he studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, which is a famous university.
Orlando's Political Career
In 1784, Orlando Bridgeman became a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called Wigan. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the House of Commons. He was elected without anyone running against him.
He was re-elected as an MP for Wigan in 1790 and again in 1796. This meant he continued to serve in Parliament.
In 1800, Orlando's father passed away. Orlando then inherited his father's titles, becoming the 2nd Baron Bradford. Because he became a peer (a member of the nobility), he had to leave his seat in the House of Commons.
In October 1800, he helped create a special group of soldiers called a Troop at his home, Weston. This group was part of the Shropshire Yeomanry, a local military force. Orlando led this Troop as a Captain until 1804.
On November 30, 1815, Orlando Bridgeman received even higher titles. He was made Viscount Newport and Earl of Bradford. These were very important noble titles.
Orlando Bridgeman passed away at the age of 63 in Weston Park, his home in Staffordshire.
