Orly's Draw a Story is a fun and creative video game that came out in 1997. It was made by ToeJam & Earl Productions and published by Broderbund. This game lets you draw and create your own pictures to help tell stories. It even won an award in 1998 for being very innovative! The main character, Orly, has her voice provided by Alreca Whyte.

How to Play Orly's Draw a Story

The game follows two main characters: Orly, an 8-year-old girl, and her talking frog friend, Lancelot. They live in Jamaica. The game has four special stories that Orly tells you. As you listen, you get to draw your own pictures to illustrate them. You can make original drawings or use ready-made objects.

For example, Orly might ask you to draw a friend for a flying monster. Or maybe you need to create a birthday present for her! What you draw then becomes part of the story and even moves around.

You can click a button to open up many template drawings. You can color these templates however you like. After each story, you can choose to save your picture or start over. Then, you can watch the whole story with your drawings included!

The game also has other cool features. In "Make A Storybook," you can create your own scenes. You can also type text to write your very own story. There is also a "Doodle Pad" where you can practice your drawing skills.

The Stories You Can Illustrate

Each story in the game has its own unique plot. You will be asked to design different objects and scenes for each one. The four stories are:

  • "The Ugly Troll People"
  • "The Strange Princess"
  • "Lancelot, Bug Eater"
  • "One Big Wish"

Awards and Recognition

Before it was even released, Orly's Draw a Story was nominated for an award. This happened at the first-ever Interactive Achievement Awards in 1998. The game was nominated for the Computer Innovation Award. It won in a category that also included other popular games like Disney's Magic Artist and Barbie Cool Looks Fashion Designer.
