Orroli is a small town, also called a comune or municipality, in the Province of South Sardinia. It's located in the beautiful Italian region of Sardinia. The name Orroli means "downy oak," which is a type of tree. In the local Sardinian language, it's called Arrólli.
This charming town is about 67.4 kilometers (around 42 miles) north of Cagliari, a larger city in Sardinia. As of December 31, 2010, Orroli had about 2,430 people living there. The town covers an area of 75.6 square kilometers (about 29.2 square miles).
Orroli is famous for its ancient history and natural beauty. It's home to one of Sardinia's most important nuraghi. A nuraghe is an ancient stone building, like a tower, built by the Nuragic people long ago.
Ancient Nuraghi and Dams
The most famous ancient structure in Orroli is the Nuraghe Arrubiu. This is a very special nuraghe because it's the only one that still has five towers standing! It gives us a great look into how people lived thousands of years ago.
Orroli also has important modern structures. There are two dams nearby: one on the Flumendosa river and another called the Mulargia dam. This second dam created a large artificial lake, which is a beautiful spot.
