Orviston is a small community in Pennsylvania, United States. It is known as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it is an area defined by the government for counting people. Orviston is located in the northern part of Centre County. It is very close to the border of Clinton County. A stream called Beech Creek flows right through the middle of the town. This creek eventually joins bigger rivers.

Orviston is the last town you can reach by the Monument/Orviston road. This road is about 10.8 miles long and is paved. It starts in Beech Creek, Pennsylvania, and ends at the entrance to Orviston. You can also travel through Orviston on other roads. These include the Orviston-Kato road to the west and the Orviston Mountain road to the south. There is also the Dehass road to the north. These other roads are unpaved mountain roads.

History of Orviston

Orviston was first settled before the big mining boom. Its original name was Hayes Run, Pennsylvania. In 1904, the town was renamed Orviston. This was done to honor Judge Ellis Orvis. He owned the Orviston Fire Brick Company. He was also a judge in Pennsylvania.

Judge Orvis owned several brick factories. These included the Centre Brick and Clay Company in Orviston. He also owned the Snow Shoe Fire Brick Company in Snow Shoe.

The Beech Creek Railroad
