Os de Civís is a small village located high in the Pyrenees mountains. It's part of Catalonia, Spain. The village is found in the municipality of Les Valls de Valira. It is west of Andorra, close to the villages of Aixàs and Bixessarri. The nearest Spanish village is Civís. Os de Civís is the most populated village in its municipality.
Unique Location
Os de Civís is very special because of where it is. It's right next to the Spain–Andorra border. What makes it unique is that you can only reach it by car if you drive through Andorra. This means it's like a "practical enclave." It's a part of Spain that is surrounded by another country for travel purposes.
Border Crossing
The border crossing into Os de Civís from Andorra is also unusual. Normally, Andorra has full border checks with Spain and France. This is because Andorra is not part of the Schengen Area or the European Union. The Schengen Area is a group of European countries that have removed border controls between them. The European Union is an economic and political partnership of many European countries.
However, the road to Os de Civís is different. There are no police or customs checks at this border crossing. This is because the road only leads to the village. You cannot use it to go anywhere else in Spain.
History and Buildings
Os de Civís has some very old buildings. Many of these buildings are from the Middle Ages. One important building is a church built in the Romanesque style. This style of building was popular in Europe during the 11th and 12th centuries.
