The Oscaecilia ochrocephala is a special kind of animal called a caecilian. Caecilians are amphibians, just like frogs and salamanders, but they look more like large worms or snakes. They don't have legs! This particular caecilian belongs to the family Caeciliidae. It was first described by a scientist named Edward Drinker Cope in 1866.
Where It Lives
The Oscaecilia ochrocephala is mostly found in two countries: Panama and Colombia. It likes to live in places that are warm and wet.
Its favorite homes are:
- Moist lowland forests, which are forests close to sea level with lots of rain.
- Plantations, which are large farms where crops like bananas or coffee are grown.
- Gardens in the countryside.
- Areas that used to be forests but have been changed a lot by people.
This caecilian needs a damp environment to survive because, like all amphibians, its skin needs to stay moist.
