Oscar Lee Brown (born February 8, 1946 – died June 3, 2020) was an American professional baseball player. He played as an outfielder for the Atlanta Braves in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for five seasons. Oscar came from a family of athletes. His brother, Willie F. Brown, was an NFL running back. Another brother, "Downtown" Ollie Brown, played baseball in MLB for 13 years. Oscar threw and batted with his right hand. He was about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighed around 175 pounds.
Oscar Brown: A Baseball Player
Oscar Brown was born in Long Beach, California. He went to Polytechnic High School there. Later, he attended the University of Southern California. In June 1966, the Atlanta Braves chose him in the first round of a special draft. This was his big step towards playing professional baseball.
Playing for the Atlanta Braves
Oscar Brown joined the Braves' main team on September 3, 1969. He played in 160 Major League games during his career. He made 77 hits. These included four home runs, 14 doubles, and two triples. His last season in MLB was 1973. This was his only full season playing for the Braves.
A Family of Athletes
Oscar Brown was not the only athlete in his family. His brother, Willie F. Brown, played American football. Willie was a running back in the NFL during the 1960s. Another brother, "Downtown" Ollie Brown, also played Major League Baseball. Ollie had a much longer career, playing for 13 years.
Oscar Brown passed away on June 3, 2020.
