Otto Sander (born June 30, 1941 – died September 12, 2013) was a famous German actor. He acted in movies, plays, and also used his voice for many roles. People often called him "The Voice" because he had such a warm and strong voice.

Life and Career
Early Life and Learning
Otto Sander grew up in a city called Kassel in Germany. He finished school there in 1961. After school, he joined the German Navy for a short time.
Then, he decided to study theatre, art history, and philosophy at university. In 1965, he started acting in plays in Düsseldorf. He also did some film work that same year. By 1967, he left his studies to become a full-time actor in Munich.
Acting on Stage
Otto Sander became very well-known for his work at the Schaubühne theatre in Berlin. This theatre was led by a famous director named Peter Stein.
From the 1980s onwards, Sander performed in many other Berlin theatres. He acted in plays like Hauptmann von Köpenick in 2004, showing how talented he was on stage.
Famous Film Roles
Otto Sander starred in many popular movies. One of his most famous roles was playing the angel Cassiel in the movie Wings of Desire and its follow-up, Faraway, So Close!. Both films were directed by Wim Wenders.
He also played a U-boat commander named Philipp Thomsen in the exciting movie Das Boot. This film is about a German submarine crew during World War II.
Sander also appeared in The Tin Drum (1979) as a trumpeter. He was in Comedian Harmonists, which was a movie about a famous musical group. Another important role was a professor in The Promise, a film about Berlin being divided by a wall.
In 1990, he was part of the group that judged films at the 40th Berlin International Film Festival.
The Voice Actor
Because of his amazing voice, Otto Sander was often asked to be a narrator. He narrated many TV documentaries and recorded numerous audiobooks in the 1990s. His voice was so special that he earned the nickname "The Voice."
Personal Life
Otto Sander was married to an actress named Monika Hansen. He was also the stepfather to two other actors, Ben Becker and Meret Becker. He had two brothers, Adolf and Chris, and a sister, Marianne.
Otto Sander passed away in Berlin on September 12, 2013, at the age of 72.
