School History and Beginnings
The school started in 1990. It was created by joining two older Catholic schools. These were St. Patrick's, which was an all-boys school, and Notre Dame, an all-girls school. The new school used the newer buildings of Notre Dame. These buildings were in the Castlehill area of Dumbarton. The name "Our Lady and St. Patrick's" was chosen to honor both original schools.
School Colors and Their Meaning
The school colors are green and blue. These colors were chosen from the older schools. They also represent important religious figures. Blue is often linked with the Virgin Mary. Green is commonly associated with St. Patrick.
Our Lady & St Patrick's in the 21st Century
In 2017, a brand new school building was constructed. This new campus cost about £25 million. It is located in the Bellsmyre area of Dumbarton. The old Castlehill campus was taken down the next year.
Academic Success and Community Role
The school is known for its high achievements. Many students do very well in their exams. Some year groups have a pass rate of 95% in their tests. The school serves students from Dumbarton, Alexandria, Balloch, Helensburgh, and the Rosneath peninsula.
Currently, about 1100 students attend the school. The headmaster is Chris Smith. He became headmaster in 2014, after the previous headmaster, Charles Rooney, retired.
School Values and Catholic Faith
Our Lady and St. Patrick's follows the "Charter for Catholic Schools in Scotland." These are guidelines set by the Scottish Government for all Catholic schools.
The school plays a big part in the local Catholic community. It often holds special church services. These services are for events like primary school students moving up to high school. They also hold services for Remembrance Day.
