Our Lady & St Patrick's High School is a large Catholic school in Dumbarton, Scotland. It teaches students from age 11 to 18. This school is for both boys and girls. It is the only Catholic secondary school for Dumbarton and nearby areas like Vale of Leven and Helensburgh.
School History
Our Lady & St Patrick's High School opened in 1990. It was created by joining two older Catholic schools. These were St. Patrick's, which was an all-boys school, and Notre Dame, an all-girls school.
The new school used the newer buildings of Notre Dame. These buildings were in the Castlehill area of Dumbarton. The name "Our Lady and St. Patrick's" was chosen to honor both of the original schools.
The school's colors are green and blue. These colors were picked from the older schools. Blue is often linked to the Virgin Mary. Green is commonly linked to St. Patrick.
The School Today
In 2017, a brand new school building was finished. It cost about £25 million to build. The new campus is located in the Bellsmyre area of Dumbarton. The old Castlehill building was taken down the next year.
The school is known for its high achievements. Many students do very well in their exams. Some year groups have a pass rate of 95% in their tests.
About 1100 students attend the school. The current headmaster is Chris Smith. He became headmaster in 2014. The school serves students from Dumbarton, Alexandria, Balloch, Helensburgh, and the Rosneath peninsula.
School Values
Like all Catholic schools in Scotland, Our Lady & St Patrick's follows special guidelines. These are called the "Charter for Catholic Schools in Scotland." The Scottish Government helps set these rules.
The school is an important part of the local Catholic community. It often holds special church services. These services happen for events like primary school graduations. They also take place for Remembrance Day events.
