Ouzinkie is a small community, also called a hamlet, located on Spruce Island in Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska, United States. Its name in the Alutiiq is Uusenkaaq. In 2010, about 161 people lived there. By 2020, the population was 109.

Where is Ouzinkie Located?
Ouzinkie is found at coordinates 57.923 degrees North and -152.502 degrees West. It is part of the Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska.
The hamlet covers a total area of about 18.22 square kilometers (7.03 square miles). Most of this area is land, about 14.34 square kilometers (5.54 square miles). The rest, about 3.88 square kilometers (1.50 square miles), is water.

Ouzinkie first appeared in the U.S. Census in 1880. Back then, it was called "Oozinkie." All 45 people living there were of mixed Russian and Alaskan Native heritage, known as Creole.
Over the years, the population changed. In 2000, there were 225 people. By 2020, the population was 109. Most residents identify as Native American. Some people are also of White or mixed heritage.
In 2000, about 44.6% of households had children under 18. The average household had about 3 people. The average family had about 3.5 people. The median age of residents was 33 years old.
Religion in Ouzinkie
Kodiak Island, where Ouzinkie is located, is special for Orthodox Christianity in America. Saint Herman of Alaska lived here for over 20 years until he passed away in 1836. He was a missionary and became the first Orthodox saint in America.
Today, two religious communities, called sketes, are near where Saint Herman lived. These are Saint Archangel Michael Skete for men and Saint Nilus Skete for women. They try to live simply, following Saint Herman's example of prayer and living off the land and sea.
Education in Ouzinkie
The Ouzinkie School provides education for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. It is a rural school managed by the Kodiak Island Borough School District.
Public Services
In 2021, Ouzinkie joined a project called the Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project. This project helps the city and other remote villages in Alaska find new ways to use renewable energy. It also helps them become more energy efficient.
