Overlook Colony is a small community in Claymont, Delaware. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government. Instead, it's part of New Castle County.
Where is Overlook Colony?
Overlook Colony is located in northern Delaware. It sits west of a main road called the Philadelphia Pike. You can find it between Harvey Road and Darley Road.
To its east, you'll find Interstate 95, a major highway. This highway separates Overlook Colony from other nearby communities. A small stream called the south branch of Naamans Creek also flows through the area.
History of Overlook Colony
Overlook Colony was planned and built in the early 1910s. A city planner named John Nolan designed the community's layout. The buildings themselves were designed by architect H. Errol Coffin.
This community was mainly built to provide homes for workers. Many of these workers were employed by the General Chemical Company.
Over the years, some of the original homes have been updated. They have been restored to look like they did when they were first built. The community's main center was also restored in the year 2000.
Overlook Colony has been recognized as a "Blueprint Community." This is a special program that helps improve neighborhoods. It helps communities become stronger and better places to live.
