Oz Squad is a comic book series. It uses characters and settings from L. Frank Baum's famous Land of Oz series. This comic updates the classic stories for a modern audience.

The series was created and written by Steve Ahlquist. In Oz Squad, Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion are now part of "Gale Force." This group is like a special spy team. Their job is to protect the magical Oz from all kinds of strange and exciting threats.

When Was Oz Squad Published?

The original Oz Squad comic series ran for 10 issues. It was published from 1991 to 1996.

The first four issues were drawn by Andrew Murphy. Dan Schaefer did the inking. These early issues were published by Brave New Words. This company later printed the first two issues again with new covers.

After that, Millennium Publications released a special 48-page comic called Oz Squad Special. Later, Steve Ahlquist and his friends started their own company, Patchwork Press. They continued publishing the comic book. Terry Loh drew the last six issues. Mike Sagara also illustrated a Little Oz Squad special.

In 2011, Steve Ahlquist published a new novel. It was called Oz Squad: March of the Tin Soldiers.

What is Oz Squad About?

The Oz Squad series takes the well-known stories created by L. Frank Baum. It updates them to appeal to an older audience. The main idea is that the classic Oz characters are now a team. They work together to solve mysteries and protect Oz.

In the first issue of Oz Squad, Tik-Tok becomes very confused and acts strangely. This happens when his "internal clockwork morality spring" wears down. This problem usually happens more slowly in Oz.

Later issues feature exciting adventures. The team attacks the hideout of Rebecca Eastwitch. She is the Wicked Witch of the East. They also go on time travel adventures. The Scarecrow meets famous people like Leonardo da Vinci and Joan of Arc. Dorothy finds herself in the American Old West. Nick, the Tin Woodman, even meets his past self when he was still human.

The 2011 novel, Oz Squad: March of the Tin Soldiers, continues the story. In the book, the Squad faces Rebecca Eastwitch again. It also introduces Ozzy, who is Dorothy and Ozma's son.
