Ozieri (Sardinian: Otieri) is a town in Sardinia, an island region of Italy. It's located in the Logudoro area and has about 11,000 people living there. Ozieri is part of the province of Sassari.

The town is home to the Cathedral of the Immacolata. This cathedral is the main church for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ozieri. Ozieri is also famous for giving its name to the Ozieri culture. This was a very old civilization that lived in Sardinia long, long ago.

  • The Cathedral of the Immacolata: This church was first built in the 1400s. It was later updated between 1550 and 1571. Inside, you can see a special artwork called the Madonna di Loreto polyptych, which was made in the 1500s.
  • Basilica of Sant'Antioco di Bisarcio: This is one of the biggest Romanesque churches in all of Sardinia. Romanesque means it was built in a style common in Europe around the 11th and 12th centuries.

Ancient Discoveries

  • Grotte di San Michele: These caves are very important! They date back to about 3500 to 2700 BC. The first discoveries of the Ozieri culture were made here starting in 1914. This prehistoric civilization is named after Ozieri because of these findings.
  • Pont'ezzu: This is an ancient Roman bridge. It was built around 200 AD and fixed up later between 300 and 400 AD. The bridge is about 87.5 meters (287 feet) long and has six arches.

  • Civic Archaeological Museum "Alle Clarisse": This museum is one of the most important in Northern Sardinia. It has amazing collections of old artifacts, coins, and items showing how people lived. These items range from prehistoric times all the way up to modern days.

Getting Around Ozieri

You can reach Ozieri by road from Sassari using the SS.597 National Road. If you are coming from Olbia, you can use the SS.199 road.

The town also has a train station. It is located in a nearby area called Chilivani. From this station, you can catch trains to cities like Olbia, Porto Torres, and Cagliari.
