A Brief History of Pájaros
Pájaros, like the rest of Puerto Rico, has an interesting history. After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened in 1898, as part of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. From then on, Puerto Rico became a territory of the U.S.
A year later, in 1899, the U.S. government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, showed that 1,492 people lived in the Pájaros neighborhood at that time.
