About Padthaway Conservation Park

Padthaway Conservation Park is a place where nature is protected. It covers an area of about 9.81 square kilometers (3.79 square miles). This park helps to keep the natural environment safe for plants and animals.

Where is the Park Located?

The park is found in a land area called the Hundred of Parsons. It has Beeama-Parsons Road on its south side. Padthaway Road forms its northern border. This makes it easy to find and visit.

How the Park Was Created

The land for the park first became a protected area in 1971. It was originally called the Padthaway National Park. In 1972, its name changed to Padthaway Conservation Park. This happened because of a new law called the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972.

What Plants Grow Here?

In 1992, experts looked closely at the plants in the park. They found different types of plant groups. Some areas have woodlands with South Australian blue gum and rough barked manna gum trees.

Other parts of the park have a low open forest. Here, you'll mostly see brown stringybark trees. There are also open woodlands with pink gum and slaty sheoak trees. These different plant types make the park a rich habitat.

Protecting Nature

Padthaway Conservation Park is listed as an IUCN Category III protected area. This means it's recognized internationally for its natural features. It's important for protecting specific natural monuments or features. In 1980, the park was also listed on the former Register of the National Estate. This showed its importance to Australia's natural heritage.
