Pageton is a small community located in McDowell County, West Virginia, in the United States. It is called a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it is a specific area that the government counts for population, but it does not have its own local city government.
In 2010, about 187 people lived in Pageton. The community is found along the Tug Fork Branch of the Norfolk and Western Railway. It is also near an area rich in a type of coal called bituminous coal. You can find Pageton on State Route 161, between the towns of Thorpe and Anawalt.
A Look Back in Time
Pageton was named after a person called Louis R. Page. He was an important official at a coal mine. These mines were often called "collieries." The town got its name because of his connection to the coal mining work in the area.
What Remains Today
Even though coal mining stopped a long time ago in Pageton, one important building still stands. This building is the Page Coal and Coke Company Store. It is a historic place and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is recognized as a special place that should be protected because of its history.
