Paing Takhon (Burmese: ပိုင်တံခွန် [pàɪɰ̃ dəgʊ̀ɰ̃]; born 17 September 1996) is a Burmese model, actor, and singer. He started his career in 2014 as a model on fashion runways. He is one of the few celebrities from Myanmar who is known around the world. Myanmar has only recently started to connect more with other countries.

In 2018, Paing Takhon was featured on BuzzFeed's list of "Stunning South Asian Men". In 2019, he was listed among The Myanmar Times "Top 10 Actors".

Early Life and Education

Paing Takhon was born Sit Ko Paing (Burmese: စစ်ကိုပိုင်) on 17 September 1996. His birthplace was Kawthaung, in the Tanintharyi Region of Myanmar. His parents are Tun Moe and Khin Kyu. He grew up in Khamaukgyi. He is the fourth of six children in his family. He has an older brother, two older sisters, and two younger brothers.

He finished high school at Basic Education High School No. 1 Khamaukgyi. In 2014, he moved to Yangon to become a model. In 2017, he began studying psychology at the University of Distance Education, Yangon.

Career Highlights

Paing Takhon joined John Lwin's model training program in 2014. He learned professional modeling and runway walking. He started his career as a runway model with John Lwin's Star & Model International Modeling Agency. He took part in many fashion shows and advertisements. This led to chances in television and DVD commercials. He also appeared in various music videos. He was featured as a fashion model on magazine covers. His work in modeling and commercials caught the eye of the film industry. This opened doors for him to act in movies.

In 2016, he traveled to Indonesia for an event called "ASEAN Celebrity Explore Quest Malaysia 2016" (ACEQM). He represented Myanmar alongside Nan Su Yati Soe. This event brought together famous celebrities and models from different Southeast Asian countries. They performed the U Shwe Yoe and Daw Moe dance as part of the event.

He became famous in 2017. He received offers for films and signed contracts for three movies.

Acting in Films and TV

He starred in the web films Thaman Kyar (Weretiger) in 2018. He also starred in Bal Thu Lal (WHO) in 2019. This film was released online and shown on Sky Net DTH for free. In 2019, he was part of the TV program Kha Yee Thwar Kauk Kyaung (Traveller's Notes). He appeared with Thinzar Wint Kyaw.

By 2019, he became popular in Thailand. This was unusual for a celebrity from Myanmar. On 3 August 2019, he held a big fan meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. Many supporters came to see him. He also appeared in several commercials and TV shows in Thailand. He served as an ASEAN Economic Community ambassador. On 21 September 2019, he was named Myanmar's tourism ambassador to Thailand. This was done by the Myanmar Tourism Marketing Association. He was ranked No. 10 on TC Candler's list of the "100 Most Handsome Faces of 2020".

In January 2021, Paing Takhon became known internationally. A photo of him with a shaved head and wearing a saffron robe went viral. This was during a 10-day period when he was a monk. People called him the "hot monk." This greatly increased his followers to 1.1 million very quickly. In December 2021, he was ranked #1 in "The 100 Most Handsome Faces of 2021" by TC Candler.

He made his first big-screen movie appearance in the 2022 film Dark Fall. However, this film was not widely shown in cinemas. This was due to the political situation in Myanmar. His second big-screen film, Kan Kaung, tells a story about the strong bond between a dog and a human. This film was very successful in Myanmar. It earned him a nomination for the Myanmar Academy Award for Best Actor. The film won three Myanmar Academy Awards in 2023. It also won several international film awards. It has been shown in other countries, including Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and South Korea. Paing Takhon was praised for his acting in the film. He won the Best Actor award at the SEA International Film Festival 2024.

He made his first foreign film appearance in the 2023 Cambodian film Rent Boy. This was followed by The Night Curse of Reatrei in 2024. This film became the highest-earning Cambodian horror film of 2024. It was also the highest-earning foreign film of the year in Myanmar. It was the highest-earning Cambodian film of all time in Taiwan. After this success, five of his Cambodian films were shown in 2024.

Music Career

Paing Takhon started his singing career in 2017. He released his first solo album, "Chit Thu" (Lover), on 16 September 2017. He gave all the money from album sales to help orphaned children. This money went to the Ananda Metta Orphan School.

Brand Partnerships

He is also known as the face of many brands. His first brand partnership was with Pond's Myanmar in 2014. In 2019, he began working as a brand ambassador for big companies. These included Oppo Myanmar, Telenor Myanmar, Sunkist Myanmar, T247 energy drink, MG Vehicles Myanmar, and Sailun Tire Myanmar.

Business Ventures

Paing Takhon is a business partner and shareholder in the United Amara Bank. He is also the founder of a beauty product company.

Community Involvement

After the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état, Paing Takhon was active in the movement against the coup. He took part in rallies in person. He also used social media to speak out. He joined the "We Want Justice" three-finger salute movement. This movement started on social media. Many celebrities joined it.

He was arrested on 8 April 2021. This happened in the North Dagon area of Yangon. He was at his mother's home. At the time, he was unwell with cerebral malaria and other health issues. He was released from Insein Prison on 2 March 2022.

Personal Life

On December 29, 2024, Paing Takhon became engaged to his longtime partner, Linn Myat Phu. They had been together for four years. Linn Myat Phu is not a public figure. She is the daughter of San Linn. San Linn is an oil businessman and chairman of the Myanmar Edible Oil Dealers' Association (MEODA).
