Pakistani general election, 2018 facts for kids
General elections were held in Pakistan on July 25, 2018. People voted to choose members for the 15th National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies of Pakistan. This election was important because it was a step towards a peaceful transfer of power from one civilian government to another.
Before the elections, many surveys showed that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) party was slightly ahead. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party was a close second. After the votes were counted, Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI party, was in the lead.
Some people had concerns about how fair the elections were, but the Election Commission of Pakistan said these claims were not true.
On July 27, election officials announced that Imran Khan's party, PTI, had won 109 out of 269 seats. This meant PTI had enough seats to form a government in the National Assembly, and Imran Khan became the Prime Minister-elect. Later, on August 15, Asad Qaiser was chosen as the Speaker of the National Assembly, and Qasim Suri became the Deputy Speaker. Finally, on August 17, Imran Khan was officially elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
