Helping Others Through Music
Early Charity Work (1997–2010)
Palak started singing to help others when she was very young. At four, she joined a group of young singers called Kalyanji–Anandji Little Star. When she was seven, during the Kargil War in 1999, she sang at shops in her city. She raised money for the families of soldiers who had passed away.
Her desire to help grew when she saw poor children cleaning train cars with their clothes. Around the same time, a school asked Palak to sing for a boy named Lokesh. He needed heart surgery, but his family could not afford it. In March 2000, Palak sang on a street vendor's cart. She collected money for Lokesh's surgery. A doctor in Bangalore heard about her efforts and offered to operate on Lokesh for free.
This inspired Palak's parents to help more children. They advertised in newspapers, and soon had a list of 33 children needing heart surgery. Hospitals even lowered their fees to help Palak's cause. Her charity organization is called "Palak Muchhal Heart Foundation."
"Save Little Hearts" Shows
Since 2000, Palak has traveled all over India and other countries. She performs charity shows called "Dil Se Dil Tak" (From Heart to Heart). Her brother Palash also sings in these shows. He helps raise money for children with kidney problems. Palak can sing in 17 different languages!
Doctors sometimes let Palak be in the operating room during surgeries. She even has her own special surgical gown. While the operation happens, she quietly chants prayers. Palak and her family do not take any money from these shows. Instead, Palak receives a doll for every child whose life she helps save.
Continued Efforts (2011–Present)
Even after becoming a professional singer in Bollywood in 2011, Palak continued her charity work. By August 2015, she had helped save 800 children. As of March 8, 2024, Palak and her brother Palash have helped save a total of 2,986 children's lives. This shows her incredible dedication to helping others.
