History of Palisade
Palisade was started in 1882. This was when the railroad tracks were built to reach this area. The village got its name because the land around it looked like a "palisade." A palisade is a tall fence of pointed wooden stakes, often used for defense.
Geography of Palisade
Most of Palisade is in Hitchcock County. Only a small part of the village reaches into Hayes County.
The village covers a total area of about 0.92 square kilometers (0.35 square miles). All of this area is land, with no water.

Every year in June, Palisade holds a special event called "Palisade Pioneer Days." This celebration lasts for a whole weekend. It is a time for people who went to Palisade High School to come back and visit. The event includes fun games, shared meals, and a parade.
