How Did Palisades Get Its Name?
The name "Palisades" has an interesting story! It comes from a rocky hill in the area called Centennial Ridge. This hill is located between the canal and the river. Early settlers who came from New Jersey thought Centennial Ridge looked a lot like the New Jersey Palisades. The New Jersey Palisades are a famous line of tall, rocky cliffs along the Hudson River. So, they named their new community "Palisades" to remember their old home.
