Early Mentions and Documents

One old document from 1030 might mention Palomero. This document talks about "Casar de Palomero" (which means "houses of Palomero"), Palomero, and Marchagaz. It says these towns were connected to a convent in Salamanca. They would give products to the convent as a form of payment.

Later, another document described the borders of a place called "Palumbarium." This could be Palomero. It also mentioned "Granata," which is now known as Granadilla.

The Castle of Altamira

There was once a castle on top of Altamira peak. This peak is in the Sierra de Santa Bárbara. However, the castle was destroyed in 1489. Queen Isabel the Catholic ordered its destruction.

Roman Connections

We know that the Romans lived in nearby towns. For example, in Cáparra, there are important Roman ruins and an interpretation center. Because of this, it's likely that Palomero was also a Roman settlement.
