Where is Sierra de Gata Located?
The Sierra de Gata mountains are found in the northwest part of the province of Cáceres. This province is in a region of Spain called Extremadura.
On its western side, the Sierra de Gata borders Portugal. This area is close to the Portuguese Serra da Malcata Natural Reserve. It's a place where two countries meet in the mountains!
The Sierra de Gata Region
The name "Sierra de Gata" also refers to a special area, or comarca. This region includes about 20 towns and villages. They are mostly located in the same area as the mountains.
Sometimes, a town like Moraleja is part of this "comarca" even if it's not right in the mountains. This means the name can describe both the mountains and the surrounding area.
