History of Pandie Pandie Station
How Pandie Pandie Started
Pandie Pandie Station began in 1876. A man named Robert Frew started it. He also set up other large farms nearby. These included Annandale and Alton Downs. In 1877, Frew also took over Haddon Downs station.
In 1881, Robert Frew still owned Pandie Pandie. He was amazed by all the birds in the area. Because of this, he renamed the town of Diamantina Crossing to Birdsville.
Changes in Ownership
By 1903, a famous cattle owner named Sidney Kidman owned Pandie Pandie. At this time, the station faced a big problem. A severe drought hit the area. Many cattle died, and the station had no animals left.
In 1938, the Morton family bought the station. They owned Pandie Pandie for a very long time. They kept it for 70 years, until 2008.
Pandie Pandie Today
In 2008, Pandie Pandie Station was put up for sale. It was sold along with two other properties. These were Beckwith and Dickinna. Together, these three properties covered a huge area. It was about 6,625 square kilometers (2,558 square miles). The properties were sold for about A$7.5 million. Viv Oldfield bought them, along with 7,800 cattle.
Today, Viv Oldfield works with the Costello family. They manage a very large cattle business. They have about 50,000 cattle across seven stations. These stations cover about 40,000 square kilometers (15,000 square miles). They are located in the Northern Territory and South Australia.
The manager of Pandie Pandie Station is Peter Morton. People often call him "Pandie Pete." The station mainly raises Brahman cattle. These cattle are known for doing well in hot climates.
In April 2013, the land that makes up Pandie Pandie Station was officially named "Pandie Pandie." This made it a recognized place on maps.
