João Bosco Papaléo Paes (born August 27, 1952 – died June 25, 2020), known as Papaléo Paes, was a Brazilian politician and doctor. He was born in Pará, Brazil, but became famous for representing the state of Amapá in politics.

Early Life and Education
Before becoming a politician, Papaléo Paes studied to become a doctor. He graduated from the Federal University of Pará. After that, he chose to specialize in Cardiology, which is the study of the heart, in Rio de Janeiro.
He worked at the General Hospital of Macapá, where he held a management position. In 1992, he was chosen to be the Health Secretary for the state of Amapá. This role meant he was in charge of health services for the whole state.
Political Journey
In 1992, Papaléo Paes was elected as the Mayor of Macapá. The Mayor is like the head of the city government. He served in this important role from 1993 to 1996.
In 2000, he tried to become Mayor of Macapá again, but he did not win the election that time.
Later, in 2002, he was elected as a Senator for the state of Amapá. A Senator is a national politician who represents their state in the country's parliament. He served as a Senator from 2003 to 2011.
In 2006, he ran for Governor of Amapá, but he was not elected. The Governor is the leader of a state, similar to a state president.
His last major political role began in 2014 when he was elected Vice Governor of Amapá. He held this position from 2015 to 2018. The Vice Governor helps the Governor and takes over if the Governor cannot do their job.
Family and Passing
Papaléo Paes was married to Josélia Martins Papaléo Paes. They had two daughters named Juliana and Jacyra.
Sadly, Papaléo Paes passed away on June 25, 2020, in Macapá. He was 67 years old. His death was due to complications from COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic.
