Papendrecht is a town and a municipality in the western Netherlands. It is located in the province of South Holland. The town sits where the Beneden Merwede River and the Noord River meet.
In 2014, about 32,177 people lived in Papendrecht. The total area of the municipality is about 10.79 km2 (4.17 sq mi). A part of this area, 1.31 km2 (0.51 sq mi), is water.
Papendrecht was first mentioned in old papers around the year 1105. For a long time, it stayed a small village. But in the 1960s, it started to grow very fast. Now, most of its land is covered by buildings and homes. The town is also known for a very old linden tree, which is about 180 years old and stands by the river.
