The Papua big-eyed tree frog (Nyctimystes papua) is a type of tree frog that lives in Papua New Guinea. These frogs are known for their large eyes. They are found in the southeastern part of New Guinea.

This frog lives in high places, from Mount Albert-Edward in the west to Mount Dayman in the east. You can find them living between 1,200 and 2,600 meters (about 3,900 to 8,500 feet) above sea level.

Adult male Papua big-eyed tree frogs are usually about 4.6 to 5.1 centimeters (1.8 to 2 inches) long. Female frogs are larger, growing to about 7.0 centimeters (2.8 inches) long.

Their skin can be gray or brown, sometimes with yellow spots. A cool fact about this frog is that it has fewer patterns on its lower eyelids compared to other frogs in its group.

Where the Frog Lives

The Papua big-eyed tree frog makes its home in the forests of southeastern New Guinea. This island has many different types of habitats. The frog prefers to live in higher, cooler areas.

It lives in mountainous regions. These areas often have lots of rain and thick forests. This environment provides the perfect home for these unique tree frogs.
