Paradela is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Lugo province of Galicia, in north-west Spain. It is part of the Sarria region.
In 2008, about 2,193 people lived in Paradela. This area is famous for its connection to the Way of St. James, also known as the Camino de Santiago. The French route of this famous pilgrimage, which ends in Santiago de Compostela, goes through five villages within Paradela. These villages are Ferreiros, Francos, Laxe, Cortes, and Loio.
What Does Paradela Mean?
The name Paradela comes from an old Latin word, parata. This word means something like a hostal or a place to stay near the end of a journey. This makes sense because of its location on the Way of St. James.
