Parc (which means Park in English) is the name of an ancient mansion found near the village of Croesor. This area is part of the community of Llanfrothen, close to Penrhyndeudraeth in Gwynedd, Wales. The mansion has been in ruins since the late 1600s. This happened after the Anwyl Family, who lived there, moved to Llugwy.

A Home for a Famous Writer

During the summers from 1934 until World War II, a famous writer named Richard A.W. Hughes rented a small cottage at Parc. He rented it from his good friends, Clough and Amabel Williams-Ellis.

Stories for Evacuee Children

When World War II started, many children were sent away from cities to safer places in the countryside. Richard Hughes welcomed six of these children, called evacuees, into his cottage at Parc. He would tell them exciting stories. These stories were later put together in a book called Don't Blame Me! (published in 1940). This shows how Parc became a special place for these children during a difficult time.

Parc's Historic Importance

Parc is a very important historical site. It is officially recognized as a Grade II* listed building. This means it is a building of special interest and needs to be protected.

Gardens with a Rich History

The gardens around Parc are also very special. They are listed as Grade II on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales. This means the gardens have historical importance and are part of Wales's heritage. Protecting these gardens helps us understand how people lived and designed landscapes in the past.
