Parkdale High School Basketball Championship

In 1979, Parkdale High School achieved something amazing. Their boys' basketball team won the overall state championship for Arkansas! This was a huge deal because Parkdale was a very small Class B school.

In the championship game, a player named Ronald Claiborne scored 32 points for Parkdale. They beat a team called Marmaduke. Parkdale's team had an incredible season, finishing with 42 wins and only 2 losses. They even upset a much larger school, Pine Bluff, in the tournament. At that time, Parkdale had about 471 people, while Pine Bluff had around 57,000!

This victory by the small Parkdale team was later compared to the movie Hoosiers. That movie is about a tiny school winning a big basketball championship in Indiana.
