The Parque Lineal Veredas del Labrador is a cool park in Ponce, Puerto Rico. People also call it Parque Lineal de Ponce or just Parque Lineal for short. It's a passive park, which means it's a place for relaxing, walking, and enjoying nature.
This park stretches along the Río Portugués and Río Bucaná rivers in Ponce. It's near another park being built called Parque Ecológico Urbano, but they are separate.

Building the Park
The idea for the park started a long time ago. Money for the park was set aside by the local government in 1991. The park is part of a bigger plan for Ponce called Ponce en Marcha, which means "Ponce on the Move."
Construction began when Francisco Zayas Seijo was the mayor (from 2005 to 2009). The project got a big boost of $18 million from the Government of Puerto Rico. This money came from a court decision in 1998, which said the government had to pay for improvements in Ponce.
Park Sections and Progress
The park is being built in three main parts, or "phases." Each phase follows a different path along the rivers.
Phase One: Along the Rivers
- Phase I is about 3.8 kilometers (2.4 miles) long.
- It runs along the east side of the Río Portugués and the west side of the Río Bucaná.
- This part of the park is next to the Julio Enrique Monagas Family Park.
- Phase I was finished in October 2011.
Phase Two: To the Sea
- Phase II is the longest part, at 4.9 kilometers (3 miles).
- It goes along the west side of the Río Portugués.
- Then, it follows the left bank of the Río Bucaná all the way to the Caribbean Sea.
- Phase II was completed in May 2012.
Phase Three: Parallel Path
- Phase III is about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) long.
- It runs parallel to Phase II, along the eastern side of the Río Bucaná.
- As of 2011, Phases II and III were still being built.
What You'll See
The park generally runs from north to south, about 500 meters (about a third of a mile) east of the city center. As you walk or bike through the park, you'll pass by some important places in Ponce:
- The Campo Atlético Charles H. Terry (a sports field).
- The Centro de Convenciones de Ponce (a convention center).
- The Parque Familiar Julio Enrique Monagas (a family park).
The park also goes near neighborhoods known for their music, like Bélgica and San Antón. It's a great way to see different parts of the city while enjoying nature.
How Much It Cost
The total cost to build the entire park was estimated to be around $22 million.
- Phase I alone cost about $4.5 million.
- As of October 2011, the construction of Phases II and III together was costing $18 million.
