Parr Reservoir, also known as Parr Shoals Reservoir, is a lake created on the Broad River in Pomaria, South Carolina. It's the last lake on the Broad River before the river flows into Columbia, South Carolina and the Columbia Canal.
What is Parr Reservoir?
Parr Reservoir is a special kind of lake called a reservoir. It was made by building a dam across the Broad River. This lake is mainly used to help a nearby nuclear power plant.
How the Lake is Used
The main job of Parr Reservoir is to act like a big holding tank for water. Water is pulled from the lake to cool down the machines, called turbines, at a power plant nearby. After the water is used for cooling, it is put back into the lake. This process helps the power plant make electricity.
Fishing at Parr Reservoir
Even though its main purpose is for the power plant, people also enjoy fishing here.
- Anglers often look for catfish in the main river channel.
- For bass fishing, people usually go to Heller's Creek and Cannon Creek.
- You can also find good bass fishing below Lake Monticello, in an area called the tailrace.
