The Parish Church of St. Francis of Assisi (known in Spanish as Parroquia San Francisco de Asís) is a Roman Catholic parish church located in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is a special place of worship dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi.
History and Design
This church was first started on December 2, 1840. It is found in the Old City of Montevideo. You can find it where Cerrito and Solís streets meet.
The building was constructed in the 19th century. Its design is in the Neo-Romanesque style. This style looks back to the old Romanesque buildings from the Middle Ages. The architect was a French-Uruguayan named Victor Rabu. He was inspired by the famous basilica of St. Sernin, Toulouse in France. The church was finished in 1870.
