The party stopped existing in 1864. This happened right after the islands joined the Kingdom of Greece. This union was exactly what the party had been working for.

What Was the Party of Radicals?
The Party of Radicals was a group of people who shared political ideas. They wanted the Ionian Islands to become part of Greece. This idea is called enosis, which means "union." The party believed strongly in Greek nationalism. This means they felt a strong connection to Greek culture and identity.
Key Leaders and Ideas
Two important leaders of the party were Ilias Zervos Iakovatos and Iosif Momferatos. They helped guide the party's efforts. The party also supported constitutionalism. This means they believed in a government that follows a set of rules written in a constitution. They also had "radical" ideas for their time. This meant they wanted big changes, like uniting with Greece.
Working Towards Union
The Party of Radicals worked hard to achieve their goal. They used their positions in the Ionian parliament to push for union.
The 1850 Proposal
On November 26, 1850, a member of parliament named John Detoratos Typaldos made a big proposal. He suggested that the Ionian Islands should unite with Greece. Many other important members of the party signed this resolution. These included Gerasimos Livadas, Nadalis Domeneginis, George Typaldos, Frangiskos Domeneginis, Ilias Zervos Iakovatos, Iosif Momferatos, Telemachus Paizis, Ioannis Typaldos, Aggelos Sigouros-Dessyllas, and Christodoulos Tofanis. This showed how many people supported the idea of union.
British Involvement
During the time the British ruled the islands, an important person visited. This was William Ewart Gladstone, who later became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He saw the situation and actually suggested that the islands should reunite with Greece. This idea was not popular with the British government at the time.
Party Divisions
Like many political groups, the Party of Radicals faced some challenges. In 1862, the party split into two different groups.
Two New Factions
The two new groups were called the "United Radical Party" and the "Real Radical Party." Even though they split, both factions still shared the main goal of uniting the Ionian Islands with Greece.
