Dancers performing Paquita grand pas de deux entrée
A pas de deux (say "pah-duh-DEW") is a special dance for two people in ballet. The name comes from French and means "step of two." It's like a dance duet where two dancers, usually a male and a female, perform ballet moves together.
This type of dance is a big part of classical ballet. You can see amazing pas de deux performances in famous ballets like Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and Giselle.
Most of the time, a pas de deux is danced by a male dancer (called a danseur) and a female dancer (called a ballerina). But sometimes there are exceptions! For example, in the movie White Nights, a pas de deux was performed by two male dancers, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines.
