Pat Green's Music Journey
Pat Green started his music journey when he was 18 years old. He was a student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He played small shows in local bars and clubs. In 1995, he borrowed money from his parents to record and release his first albums. These albums were made with the help of music producer Lloyd Maines. Pat Green did not become a full-time musician until 1997. This was when his stepfather encouraged him to focus completely on music.
After deciding to pursue music, Pat Green caught the attention of famous country singer Willie Nelson. Green then joined a tour with Nelson and other well-known country musicians. His performance at the 1998 Willie Nelson 4th of July Picnic helped him become known across the country. Soon, he was playing sold-out shows in Texas. He even had a sponsor, Miller Lite. He sold more than 250,000 albums without a major record deal.
First Major Albums
Pat Green's first album with a major record label was Three Days. It came out in 2001. This album included his best older songs and some new ones. They were all updated with modern sound. In 2003, he released the album Wave on Wave. The main song from this album, also called "Wave on Wave," became a big hit. It reached No. 3 on the music charts by the end of that year. This song, which had a Christian message, is still Pat Green's biggest hit.
In the mid-2000s, Pat Green tried to build on the success of Wave on Wave. He released "Lucky Ones" in late 2004. This was his third and last album with the Universal/Republic Records label. Even without much support from the label, the album reached No. 6 on the U.S. country charts. He toured with popular country artists like Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney. In 2006, Green released his album Cannonball. Some critics felt this album sounded too much like other pop music from Nashville. Pat Green understood that he needed more hit songs to keep his career going strong.
Later Music and Independent Return
In 2008, Pat Green released "Let Me". This was the first song from his last album with a major label, What I'm For. "Let Me" reached No. 12 on the country charts. This was his first song in the Top 20 since 2006. He later left BNA Records.
In 2011, Pat Green announced he was returning to Texas and making music independently. On September 2, 2014, he released a new song called "Girls from Texas." It featured singer Lyle Lovett. On May 18, 2015, Green released another new song, "While I Was Away." The music video for this song was about parents who travel a lot for work. "While I Was Away" became very popular with fans.
Pat Green's self-released album Home came out on August 14, 2015. It quickly reached No. 5 on the Top Country Albums chart. This album featured other artists like Lyle Lovett and Sheryl Crow. He released the song "Drinkin' Days" in May 2017. On his 46th birthday, April 5, 2018, a tribute album called Dancehall Dreamin': A Tribute to Pat Green was released. It included covers of 10 of his hit songs. On July 20, 2018, he released the song "Friday's Comin'".
On September 2, 2022, Pat Green released his newest album, "Miles and Miles of You." This was his first album in seven years.
