Patricio Guzmán Lozanes (born August 11, 1941) is a famous Chilean filmmaker. He is known for making documentary films. Documentaries are movies that show real events and people.
Patricio Guzmán has made many important films. He is especially famous for two trilogies (sets of three films). One set is called The Battle of Chile (made between 1975 and 1979). The other set includes Nostalgia for the Light (2010), The Pearl Button (2015), and The Cordillera of Dreams (2019).

Patricio Guzmán's Filmmaking Journey
Patricio Guzmán does more than just make films. He also teaches others how to make documentaries. He gives classes in Europe and Latin America. He also started and directs a big film festival in Santiago, Chile. This festival is called the International Documentary Festival of Santiago (FIDOCS). Today, he lives in France.
His film The Compass Rose was shown at the Moscow International Film Festival in 1983. In 2015, his movie The Pearl Button was part of the main competition at the Berlin International Film Festival. He was also nominated for a special award for his writing for the film Nostalgia for the Light in 2010.
