Patrick Charles Carnegy is the son of Patrick Charles Alexander Carnegy and Joyce Eleanor Townsley. He is a direct male descendant of David Carnegie, who was the 2nd Earl of Northesk.
He became the Earl of Northesk in 2010. This happened after the previous Earl, David Carnegie, 14th Earl of Northesk, passed away. Patrick inherited the title because he was the closest male relative in the family line.
Education and Early Life
Patrick Carnegy went to a well-known school called Rugby School. After that, he studied at Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, starting in 1960.

Working in Journalism and Broadcasting
From 1969 to 1978, Patrick Carnegy worked as an assistant editor for The Times Literary Supplement. This is a famous newspaper section that reviews books and literature.
He also worked in radio and television. In the 1970s and 1980s, he was a regular guest on the BBC Radio 4 arts show Kaleidoscope. He also created documentaries for BBC Radio 3 about famous writers like Thomas Mann and Franz Kafka. He even discussed opera performances on radio. For television, he helped with a BBC 2 documentary about the composer Wagner in 1998.
Work at the Royal Opera House
In 1988, Patrick Carnegy was asked to join the Royal Opera House. He became their "Dramaturg," which means he was an expert adviser on plays and operas. He started programs like lectures and study days to help people learn more about the performances. He also received a special research grant called a Leverhulme Research Fellowship from 1994 to 1996.
Other Important Roles
Patrick Carnegy was a founding member of the Bayreuth International Arts Centre. He also served on important committees for the BBC, helping to advise on music and general topics from 1986 to 1996.

He has written several books. One of his books is Faust as Musician: A Study of Thomas Mann’s novel ‘Doctor Faustus’, published in 1973. Family Life
Lord Northesk lives in Cambridgeshire with his wife, Jill Gomez. Jill Gomez is a talented opera singer. They do not have any children.
His younger brother, Colin David Carnegy (born in 1942), is currently the person who would inherit the title of Earl of Northesk if anything were to happen to Patrick.
