Historians sometimes disagree on the exact numbering of the Lords Sinclair. However, many agree that Patrick Sinclair was indeed the 9th person to hold this important title.
Becoming Lord Sinclair
Patrick Sinclair was the third son of James Sinclair, who was known as the Master of Sinclair. His mother was Isabella, the daughter of Andrew Leslie, 5th Earl of Rothes. Patrick was also the grandson of Henry Sinclair, 6th Lord Sinclair.
Patrick had two older brothers. His brother Henry Sinclair, 7th Lord Sinclair died in 1602. His other brother, James Sinclair, 8th Lord Sinclair, passed away in 1607. After his brothers died, Patrick became the 9th Lord Sinclair. This meant he inherited the title and responsibilities that came with it.
